The next Sinespace major event takes place at the end of December, 2018:
    Our Winter Festival!
    Sunday & Monday, December 30-31

Note: Minor Contest details may change as we refine them. Please check back - will post update reply as they occur.

This Winter Festival combines winter holidays and New Year's Eve.

We're also working hard to make it a prosperous time for our creators!

Below are description of items needed to enter contests and also in the Marketplace for our users to buy so they can enter contests and earn some gold.

    • Create a Winter Region and enter the Winter Wonderland Contest
    • Create a region in Unity to pass the Sinespace Review process
    • Should have some of your own models or textures (more substantial originality for selling as a template)**
    • Judging will be on the balance of the following criteria: Overall look, download weight, ease of movement, and expression of winter beauty
    • Deadline to enter the contest: December 20th ( Please contact Ghaelen, DixieChick, or Dolome Demonia and we'll add you to the list.
    • Deadline to upload your region and open it to the public: December 29.
    • We will be touring and judging beginning Sunday, December 30.
    • Two winners! First Prize: 2500 Gold; Second Prize; 1500 Gold
**Think also about selling that winter region as a template that a user can buy for their own home!**
(try to keep it around 50mb or less, so the user can add furniture decorations & stay below the 128mb limit)
    • Make templates and furniture decorations in the shop for the "Home for the Holidays" template contest
      • The Home for the Holidays template contest is for users who aren't building in Unity.
      • The "Home Space" is a user's (free) space with one of the templates from the Shop
        • The Holiday template doesn't have to be a Winter template, it can be tropical or desert.
        • We judge on the way a user has decorated with Holiday Decor in their own way
      • Users should decorate with (mostly) items available to everyone in the shop.
        • One or two items can be their uploaded items. But the contest is about using ready-made items from the shop as inspiration to other users who aren't makers.
      • Deadline to enter the contest: December 20th ( Please contact Ghaelen, DixieChick, or Dolome Demonia and we'll add you to the list.)
      • Deadline to upload your region and open it to the public: December 29.
      • We will be touring and judging beginning Sunday, December 30.
      • Two winners! First Prize: 2500 Gold; Second Prize; 1500 Gold

    • Best Winter Outfit Contest (in Steam Lake Winter with DJ rosa on Sunday, Dec. 30)
      • You can wear your own created clothing, combine your clothing with shop items, or assemble a complete outfit from shop items
      • If your are making your own clothing/accessories, upload your outfit or clothing pieces by party time on December 30 at 9pm UTC; 4pm Eastern in Steam Lake Winter
        • You should upload to test the fit/look and to pass the Sinespace Review process 24 to 48 hours ahead of the contest time.
      • Enjoy music of the season with DJ Rosa and dance on the Steam Dance Pine
      • First Prize 2000 gold, Second Prize 1000 gold

    • Winter & New Year's Eve wearable items and decor
      • We're having two other contests (and parties!)
    • "Be the Ornament" Contest: wearables and attachments (Tentative, Day/Time TBA)
    • New Year's Eve Outfit Contest (GuitaraHalla with James Olmos) on Monday, Dec 31.

(Ugly Sweaters) **We're going to table this until end of 2019 while clothing tools are improved**

The first two are a little unclear, but I imagine there will be other posts to get into the specifics of what the Winter Wonderland Contest and the Home For The Holidays template contests are.

As for the Ugly Sweater Contest, please make a separate clothing category for contest entries? It feels like both the male and female tops categories are already swimming in t-shirt listings, and calling for creators to put as many more listings as possible in an already busy general category makes it easier for makers of original items to get even more lost in that shuffle.

The call here IS more general, but yes, there will be another thread for the contests as things become more decided.

Right now we're doing something that may not actually need doing - reminding creators that the holidays are coming. I, for one, know how fast the time can get away from me.

I'll post a link here to the contest thread once all of the contests are sorted out (a week or so). I do like to have one region and one clothing contest specifically for creators and one or two that regular users can participate in. But they ARE all integrated, since users can't buy something that isn't in the shop, so I'm nudging all creators to think about both their own entries and other items for the store.

A quick note on the two region contests. The created region is one that's built in unity and uploaded. The templates contests are for users who like to decorate but don't work in unity. I try to do both so everyone can participate whether they build or not. Hence the additional need for holiday decor in the shop.

That is a very good idea - I will ask if and how that can be done to make it clear. We don't have ANY sweaters, really, so the contest may not fly. It's sometimes a trick to go from idea to item in the time between now and the contest.

It's a shame that contest organizers didn't really give much attention to issues currently facing the SineSpace shop (we've been voicing our concerns for months) or how the clothing categories are currently set up (though a quick trip to the editor pack does show how the subcategories work):

    sinespaceclothingcats.png
In clothes, there's a major category section for tops, and subcategories for Shirts, Jackets, Underwear, and Outerwear. But as you might notice if you do any shopping in-world, clicking on one of the major category sections on the left-hand side of the screen shows you a mix of items in all the subcategories.

Tops for male and female avatars currently has lots of listings, they are currently swamped by a very large number of t-shirts (at last count, I think it was around 40 different master model listings and countless hundreds of pattern variations) flooding the marketplace. That's partly understandable, as most creators start with basic items as they get started creating content for SineSpace, but in some cases it's a steady stream of additional listings to compete for shoppers' attention. Earlier this year an algorithm was put in place to help weight things in favor of original content and stronger selling items, but it has not yet been working properly.

The only way that an Ugly Sweater contest doesn't make the above problem worse is to create a major category under Clothes for Contest entries. That would create a section on the left hand side where the niche products would show (it's such a niche that in 2 years of open beta there hasn't been a single sweater offering, ugly or otherwise, by any creator).

Noted. Maybe this kind of situation will help move those concerns up in the list of priorities. I'll put in a ticket myself to see what can be done.

There's always the possibility that a contest idea doesn't fly. That happens often. It still might be a good idea, even if tabled for the future.
