For those of us who are used to having sound gestures in-world, these are now available in the shop. The item is called a "Sound Gesture Bracelet." This is a clothing item (bracelet), that when worn will display a sound gesture HUD on the screen. Simply click the button for the sound you wish to send in-world. The first group of sounds is fairly general in nature, such as Applause, Yay, Cheering, Hello, Goodbye and so forth. Later bracelets will have many more sounds to use. Please gesture responsibly and don't overdo the sounds. And, for those who do Not wish to hear the sounds, simply turn them off in your "settings" cog at the bottom right of your screen. This item is 125 Gold.

Does the client app settings panel allow you to select a specific object you don't want to hear? I thought that was a system-wide control panel.

FYI: The Sound Gesture Bracelets have been temporarily removed from the Marketplace pending implementation of volume controls and/or a method to mute the sounds. Sorry for any inconvenience. :)
